Today's kids meet tomorrow's careers
CodeREV encourages kids to "CREATE THE FUTURE" of their digital world by learning technical skills for the careers of tomorrow.
This inspiring slogan highlights the impact of tech education on a child's career prospects, which is a primary concern for parents. (CodeREV's ads primarily run on parenting websites and publications.)
The copy elaborates on the slogan, and emphasizes the variety of course offerings, with "Minecraft" being prominent. Parents today are far more inclined to ask their kids what they want to do for camp, and have to convince them that it'll be fun. What's more convincing than than one of the world's most popular games?
Newsworthy email campaigns
In its early days, CodeREV's email blasts had about average click-through rates. I had a feeling we could do better — a template redesign, featured here, increased click through-rates by 300%.
What made the difference? A combination of factors. First, the "sign up" button was moved to the top, with a decrease in copy leading up to it. If a reader gets through the top of the email and has to ask "what's the point?" we lost them. We also made efforts to include links to relevant articles highlighting the importance of tech careers and education.
As well, instead of listing course descriptions, we use pictures, which link to the course descriptions and sign up options. This further increased the click-through rates by simply having more links to click, and making the email less overwhelming.

You've got (direct) mail
Beverly Hills presented a unique challenge to CodeREV due to a rule that traditional flyers couldn't be distributed in the area.
Therefore, we made a direct mail ad — but how do we reach people when most discard extra mail right away? With bragging rights.
When going out to the mailbox, it may be the first time all day the modern parent thinks about their neighbors, especially in affluent, isolated, but nonetheless competitive neighborhoods. By tapping into the spirit of "keeping up with the Joneses" at the right time, potential customer are engaged enough to read on, and, hopefully, flip the ad over for in-depth information.
Social skills are career skills
Many parents in the digital age love how the tech industry can offer lucrative careers for their children. They also want to make sure that technology doesn't hinder their kids' ability to develop social skills, often equally as important as tech knowledge for the modern professional.

Thus was a need to develop messaging around the idea that CodeREV Kids summer camps are admittedly tech camps, but offer an equal amount of fun and friendship that's key to a child's development.

So I created a new campaign promoting CodeREV's use of state-of-the-art "friendship technology". This message reminded parents that tech camps, although educational, offer plenty of opportunities to have fun and make friends too!
